Grover Cleveland Black Jr. passed on to be with God on November 4, 2015. Visitation will be held on Friday, November, 6, 2015 from 2pm until 8pm and on Saturday from 11am until the time of service. A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 3pm at the Taylor Funeral Home with Joel Plunkett and Troy Duggar officiating. Place of rest will be in the Union Cemetery.

He was born September 16, 1925 to Grover C. Black and Cora Mai Myatt Black. He came to Jesus and was baptized at the age of 16 at the Lyles Church of Christ. He was a man of strong Christian conviction. This evidenced itself by the love he shared with his wife, children, family, and friends. He was a generous man with his time, money and food. Always sharing with those he cared for, and those in need. Gardening and woodworking were his favorite pastimes. He enjoyed sharing the fruits of his garden and his wooden creations. He was always concerned for the well being of others, even as he was weakening in his last days. He was a decorated WWII Veteran who earned a purple heart and bronze star. When asked about his biggest concern while he was in the war, he stated “I worried about my mom and the kids she was raising.” He was one of the best men from one of the greatest generations of our country.

He is survived by his daughter, Regina Black of Nashville; son, Danny Black of Dickson; granddaughter, Kristen Black; brother, Kenneth Black; and many loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Hattie Bishop Black.

His daughter would like to thank everyone who has helped care for him and give his final days some comfort and happiness. She would also like to acknowledge Connie Smith (his caretaker) for her tender loving care of her father.
