Funeral services for Carlos Eugene Odom, 68 of Lyles, Tennessee will be at 12 noon Monday, July 25, 2016 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Moore officiating. Interment, with military honors will follow at 2 p.m. at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Sunday July 24th from 2 to 8 PM. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. For those desiring, memorials may be made to “Wounded Warriors” or to “Disabled American Veterans (DAV)”.
Born in Houston County, he was the son of the late Eugene E. “Jack” Odom and the late Ann A. Mathis Barnes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Lawrence Barnes and Williams Francis Barnes. Mr. Odom, a machinist by trade and a lifelong farmer by choice, also had sixteen years of service in the military. He volunteered to serve in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam era with duty in Ft. Bliss, Texas and was also stationed in Germany. Following that stint of service, he worked in tool and die for Southern Gage in Erin. In 1988 he joined the Army National Guard and was deployed in early 1990’s to the Gulf War with military service in Iraq. He was also a machinist in the auto industry for General Motors. Mr. Odom was an avid reader who stressed to his family and friends the importance of a good education. He loved animals, raising cattle and was a certified Beefmaster.
Survivors include his wife, Maryann Rowlett Odom, Lyles, TN; one son, Michael Eugene Odom, Tennessee Ridge, TN; one daughter, T. Renee Odom-Stawski (Chris), Tennessee Ridge; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
