Emma Jean Wyburn Hall died peacefully with her family by her side after a recurrence of breast cancer she beat for over 20 years. Emma was a passionate knitter and a lifelong encourager who helped people on the margins and made the world nicer for being in it.
She was born to Rebecca Coulter Wyburn & Vernon Knox Wyburn (both deceased) on February 26, 1942 in Bon Aqua, Tn. After early childhood in Bon Aqua her family moved to Burns, TN across from the elementary school she would begin, skipping 2nd grade.  She caught the attention of a young Daniel F. Hall and married him in 1961, foregoing her final year at David Lipscomb College (59-61) to set up housekeeping in Frankfort, Germany to be a military wife. Dan predeceased her in 2006. Upon returning from Germany, she and Dan first settled in Vicksburg, Ms.  Both anxious to get back to Tennessee, Dan accepted a job in Carthage, TN and it was here that Emma began her family and graduated from Tennessee Tech (1968).  Emma made friends, taught children & impacted lives in Vicksburg; Carthage; Savannah, TN and finally returning home to Burns when Dan accepted a transfer to Nashville.
While in Carthage her two children Alan (Vickie) and Carol Hall Ragan (Brian) were born. She postponed her working career to get them both in school and then began teaching in public schools in Tn.  She has impacted countless lives through her love of teaching English and Psychology, and was twice named Teacher of the Year.  She had an appreciation for the arts and was a tireless encourager for her students to follow their dreams.  The influence from her career in teaching is still felt today.
After retirement she did what she most delighted in, which was to be MomEm to her grandchildren Patrick & Emma Ragan & Anna and Charlie Hall.  From having parties with her “doll babies” to traveling around the country and the world with them, MomEm could always be counted on for a treat, a hug, and some love.
Her fight with cancer began before she was diagnosed; helping to start Peggy’s Cancer Support Group and working tirelessly for Relay for Life.  She has served tirelessly on the Foster Care Review board and was a founding member of CASA in Dickson and the Community Foundation of Dickson.  She is a longtime member of the Walnut Street Church of Christ and exhibits her love for God through her compassion towards others.  Emma and the family are grateful for the compassionate, personal and empathetic care provided by Doctor Doug Holliday and his wife Debbie
A celebration of Emma’s life will be Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. from the Walnut Street Church of Christ. Her family will be giving personal eulogies.
