A native of Hickman County, Allene was the daughter of the late William Arch and Jessie James Bishop Thornton. She was married to Carl Sullivan who preceded her in death. Although she worked some outside the home, she was proud to consider herself a homemaker. Since her husband died at an early age, she was amazing in having reared three children practically by herself. A member of Rocky Valley Church of Christ, she was a great Christian influence on her family and set a great example to all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved quilting, and took great pride in her yard, her garden and her flowers. Because of her love of family and her culinary skills, Allene’s home was considered a happy “destination” for family and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Jerry Wayne Sullivan and by her brothers, Emory Thornton, Clyde Thornton, Rufus Thornton, Arnel Sullivan, James Thornton, Hubert Thornton, and Ed Warren.
Survivors include her son, Carl Sullivan (Glenda), Lyles, TN; her daughter, Wanda Vance (Bill), Fredericksburg, VA; her brother, Carl Warren (Marilyn), Centerville, TN; five grandchildren, Adam Sullivan, Kristy Sullivan, Stefanie Kellar, Jennifer Miller, and Tim Sullivan; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff of NHC for the loving care they provided to Mrs. Sullivan during her stay there.
