Mr. Sherod Lee “Butch” Measells, Jr. age 74 of Dickson, TN died peacefully at home on Friday May 19, 2017 with his three children by his side holding his hands. Born in Ellisville, MS he was the son of the late Sherod Lee Measells, Sr. and Myrtis Irene Wells Measells Hill. He was a 1960 graduate of Ellisville High School and attended Jones County Junior College and transferred to the University of Southern Mississippi and graduated from there in 1965. Butch played the drums in a band called The HiLites while in college which helped pay for his college education. His band even played for Jim Nabors and also for Jayne Mansfield. Butch worked his entire career for Chevron Corporation and its later subsidiary Valent, and his job took him and his family to live in Stanfield, NC; Memphis, TN; Wenatchee, WA; Antioch, CA and finally after retiring after 40 years with his wife, Myra, to Dickson, TN. He loved nature and animals (especially dogs), trees and working with wood and building things. He was in the Army Reserves for 6 years and was a member of the Walnut Street Church of Christ. He will be deeply missed by all who have known his laughter, his smile, his enthusiasm and delight in life, in others’ excitement, and in the beauty of found objects. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses at Alive Hospice whose care and guidance made it possible for him to die peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.
Survivors include his wife, Myra Enfinger Measells of Dickson, TN; son, Brad Measells (Tara) of Manchester, TN; daughters, Jana Measells (Joseph Lapsley) of Evanston, IL, Lydia Measells of Seattle, WA; sister, Margaret Rogers of Hot Coffee, MS; granddaughter, Olivia Measells; nieces, Debbie Miller & Donna Parker; two little dogs (Yorkshire Terriers) that he adored and that adored him, Popeye and Olive Oyl.
