She was born in Houston County, daughter of the late Harvey Mitchel and Addie Yates Duncan. She was the widow of the late long time Dickson barber,  Archie Thomas Harmon.  She was educated in Houston and Davidson County school systems. She moved to Dickson in 1940 . Mrs.Harmon was a longtime employee for the former Dickson General Hospital where she worked as a nurse.  In 1957 she was the first African-American on the nursing staff of Bell and Crosby Clinic and Dickson General Hospital. Through her calm and gentle manner, she brought comfort and reassurance to many patients, whether it was during childbirth or confronting a life threatening illness. She retired in 1980 to provide full time care for her late father. She was a longtime faithful member of the Bowman Chapel United Methodist Church where she was active in all of the workings of her church. She was the oldest member and over the years she served as communion  steward, member of the choir, Methodist Women, laity, trustee and pastor parish committee and a long time member of the Union Choir.
The Harmon home was readily open to friends and to extended family. She was a trusted confidant to many. Udora was always willing to listen and offer wise and compassionate counsel. Udora was affectionately called Mama Dot and at NHC of Dickson, she was known as Udorable.  She was particularly concerned with the well being of the children and the elderly in her community and would often prepare food for many in need. She would always have a pot of white beans prepared, fried  potatoes, hot water cornbread and many other comfort foods.
She was a sweet, sweet spirited lady who loved her church, family and friends.  We will always remember her gentle smile and her goodness and kindness for all she came in contact with. She will truly be missed by all.
