Born in Nashville, Gary was the son of the late Joe E. and Mary Virginia Stephens Vanderpool. He was a self-employed painter in the construction and home improvement industry. Gary honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the post-Vietnam reconstruction era and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He loved his family and was blessed to be able to visit with most of his family members in his final days of life. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Berta Hampton.
Survivors include his wife, Monica Nieswiadomy Vanderpool, Dickson; two sons, Ricky Joe Vanderpool, Hermitage, TN and Matthew Wayne Vanderpool, Nashville; step-son, Brian Felts, Dickson; brothers, Joe Vanderpool and Colin Vanderpool; sisters, Angie Pollock, Kathy Woodall, Anita Morgan, Jowanna Hughes, Louise Vanderpool, and Gina Vanderpool; grandchildren, Emma Rose Vanderpool, Josiah Lee Vanderpool, Trystan Lee Vanderpool, and Jackson Neal Felts; several nieces and nephews.
