Mr. James Melvin Harris, age 85, of Dickson, died Monday, March 25, 2013 at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Melvin Harris were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Bro. Daniel Cauthen and Bro. Edgar Beard officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in Union Cemetery. Born in Nashville, Mr. Harris was the son of the late Mangrum Eugene and Callie Palmer Horn Harris. He served his country in the United States Army Air Corps as a radar mechanic during WWII. Mr. Harris retired as a Supervisor in the garment manufacturing industry having worked for both Henry I. Siegel Mfg. Co. and Red Kap Industries. He was a member of West Dickson Church of Christ and was known for his song leading abilities in several of the area Churches of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Virley Odell Harris, Dickson; sons, Donald Eugene (Kathleen) Harris, Milton James (Connie Fay) Harris, both of Dickson; daughters, Debbie (Dudley) Daniel, and Melba Brake, Dickson, and Pamela (Jerry) Massie, Burns; brothers, Wendell 'Dick' Harris and William Doyle 'Buck' Harris, both of Dickson; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
