Memorial services for Joseph Eugene Simms, Sr., age 65 of White Bluff will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2017 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service, 1:30 until 3:30 p.m.  Mr. Simms died Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at his home.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, Mr. Simms was the son of the late Kenneth James and Joanne Pack Simms.  He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam era.  By trade, Joe was a journeyman lineman, retiring from Davis H. Elliott Electric Service.  He was an amazing artist in the media of pen and ink. His art included pastoral scenes, wildlife, still-life, and other scenes of his imagination.  Joe watched western programs and movies.  His family stated that he was a loving father and a good friend to many:  “He would give you the shirt off his back, unless it was his ‘I’d Rather Be Watching Gunsmoke’ tee shirt.” Other interests were music and woodcarving.  He could sing, play guitar, piano, banjo, and mandolin.  He will be missed greatly by family and friends.

Survivors include his son, Joseph E. Simms, Jr., White Bluff; his daughter, Eva Howland (Shayne), Spring Hill, FL; his two grandchildren, Amber Lynn Simms, and Nathaniel Cole Simms; a brother, Kenneth James “Jimmy” Simms, White Bluff; a sister, Kimberly Gwendolyn Bitner (Brian), Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
