Graveside services and interment will be Monday, February 12, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West  5817  Fort Campbell Blvd., Hopkinsville, Ky.

Co-Pastor Emeritus Vera Lester was born June 24, 1942, to the late B. and Leonie Northington Driver. She was the youngest of 13 children. She began her walk with Christ at a very young age and continued this path until her sunset.

Vera was united in Holy Matrimony to Pastor Emeritus Mathew Lester Sr. on July 7, 1967. Their service to the Lord lead them to co- Pastor the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church for 28 years.

Vera paved the way for many Women in the ministry when she took a stand with support of her husband and proclaimed the gospel of Jesus Christ from the pulpit. She withstood obstacles, ridicule, and alienation all for the sake of Jesus Christ.

In private she led the life that she publicly professed. She demonstrated that Holiness is right and there is only one option and his name is Jesus. She was a woman full of fight and lived by the words written in Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him he shall direct thy path.”

Vera touched the lives of so many people who will forever possess the imprint of love. Vera had the ability to connect with people; though a very private woman she had a way of opening up just enough for you to feel the love of Christ. She meant what she said and said what she meant.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a friend to many. Vera showed us all her dignity with her sweet, gentle and kind spirit.

She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Rev. Mathew Lester, Sr.; one daughter, Angela Davison and her husband, Rev. Roderick Daviso; four sons; Calvert, Richard, Danny and Mathew Jr. and his wife, Karen. Her six grandchildren, Rakeenan, Xavier, Kyrstyen, Ishmael, Aalyiah, Roderick II; her two great grandchildren, Kyneon and Naomi. Her sister, Norma Manley and her husband Louis, and sister-in-law, Dorothy Driver and her husband, James. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and her special friends, Ida McFadden, Vera Crutcher and Mary Elliott. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sons and eleven brothers and sisters.
