Funeral services for James Earnest Welch, age 77 of Kingston Springs will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2018 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Martin Garton Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 13th from 2 until 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until time of service.   Mr. Welch died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, March 10th.

Born in Cheatham County, James was the son of the late Earnest Olin and Eve Odell Anderson Welch.  He retired from the custodial department of the former Red Kap Industries.  He served his country in the US Army Reserves.  He was well-known in his circle of friends at the Dickson Senior Citizens Center.  He was an avid story-teller and enjoyed visiting with neighbors and family and friends.  A kind and easy-going man, he received pleasure in passing down knowledge, family history and advice to younger generations!  James had a knack for taking care of what he owned and preserving the usefulness of items many of us would deem worn out or used-up.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Sue Bettencourt, Florida; sisters, Evelyn C. Tinsley, Pleasant View, TN, and Arden Arrington (Paul), Joelton; grandchildren, Brandon Decaney, Caitlin Decaney, Mariah Alexandria Defleron and Timothy James Ard; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by siblings, Charles Welch, Eva Hasty, Joe Welch, and Mary Sue Welch.
