A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday morning, June 9, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson, Tennessee, with Pastor Nick Baird-Chrisohon and Tommy Marvin officiating. Interment will be in the Kilgore-Hansen Family Cemetery at 3506 Highway 49 West, Charlotte, Tennessee.  Visitation will be Friday, June 8, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 9, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson, TN. Honorary Pallbearers will be his beloved grandson Cole Hansen Kilgore, the Charlotte Lions Club, USN Guard from Millington Naval Station and in spirit his good friend, Armond Knight. Active Pallbearers will be Jon Kilgore, Kent Kilgore, Chris Clark, Bubba Gant, Luke Fielder, Kelly Garner, and David Cochran and Henry Beeler. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Charlotte Lions Club Sight Conservation Project (memorial gifts to be earmarked for eye sight conservation only). 

 

Ronald “Ron” Wilford Kilgore, age 79 of Charlotte, Tennessee died on Sunday, June 3, 2018.  Born on April 7, 1939 in San Benito, Texas, he graduated from San Benito High School in 1957 and enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserves as Yeoman 3rd class.  In 1959, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a Naval Advisor in Vietnam (1965-1966); after returning from Vietnam, he attended Texas A & M in Kingsville, Texas, graduating with a BA degree in Government and History in 1968. That fall, with his wife and family, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to enter Vanderbilt Law School; he received his Doctor of Jurisprudence in May 1971. In July 1971, after passing the Tennessee Bar, he was admitted to practice law in the State of Tennessee. He then returned to active duty in the Navy and was stationed in Charleston, South Carolina, in the Judge Advocates Corp. While there, he was admitted to practice in the State of South Carolina as well as the United States Court of Military Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.  During his time as a LT, JAGC, in the USN (1971-1975), he also served as Military Judge (1974 to1975). 

 

Upon returning to Nashville in 1975, he entered the law firm of Parker, Nichol, and Finley.  While practicing law in Nashville, he frequently appeared in court in Charlotte on the behalf of Dickson County clients.  In 1977, the Kilgore’s purchased the old Willie Van Raymond Farm (historically known as the John Nesbitt Homestead established c. 1799) on Highway 49 West in Charlotte.  Two years later, he moved his law practice to the Charlotte Courthouse Square.  He retired as Commander, JAGC, USNR in 1992 with 32 years of service in the United States Navy and Naval Reserve.  Mr. Kilgore was an assistant to the District Attorney in Nashville (1969 to 1971), served as City Attorney for Charlotte, Tennessee (1979 to 1987), and was counsel for the Harpeth Utility District in Charlotte (1978 to 1999).  He was a member of the Nashville Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, the Tennessee Trials Lawyers Association, the Dickson County Bar Association, and the Charlotte Lions Club (1977 to 2018).  Ron retired from his legal practice in April 2018 after 47 loyal years of practicing law and helping thousands of people; he spent 39 of those years as an attorney in Charlotte, TN.

 

In 2015, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 47 years, Sherry Hansen Kilgore.  Also, preceded in death by his parents Oliver and Dorothy Kilgore of San Benito, Texas, his brother Donald Wayne Kilgore of Corpus Christi, Texas, and his beloved grandson Cole Hansen Kilgore.  Ron said that life was never the same after his brother, grandson, and wife died.   

 

Survived by sister-in-law Barbara Kilgore of Corpus Christi, Texas; son and daughter-in-law Jon Hansen and Dawn Kilgore of New Braunfels, Texas, son Kent D. Kilgore of Leesville, Texas; daughters and sons-in-laws, Lori L. and Chris Clark of Tennessee City, TN; Kathleen “Kathy” and Henry Beeler of Dickson, TN, and Katrina “Kacey” and Bubba Gant of Tennessee Ridge, TN; and ten beloved grandchildren, Levi Scott Kilgore, Timothy Luke Fielder, Ariel Sherry Kilgore, Tanis Michelle Kilgore, Jessie Lane Hinckley, Lindsey Marie Dawson, Mariah Grace Kilgore, Ronald Warren Gant, Josey Faith Gant and Isabella May Gant, and great grandchildren, Katrina Kay, Victoria and Liam Kilgore, Jaycie Fielder, Jayden Kilgore and Ryan Dawson.  Special mention: like a daughter, Shanna Cochran, worked for Ron for 22 dedicated and loyal years.
