Mrs. Brown, age 92, died peacefully at Barton House on Wednesday, December 19, 2018.

She was born in Dickson County, daughter of the late E.W. and Elizabeth Stewart.  She was the wife of Jack Brown who preceded her in death.  They were married for 44 years.  She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Murry, Billy, and twin brother Robert (Buddy).

Roberta graduated from Dickson High School in 1944.  She attended Martin College for one year and then transferred to Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL, where she received her B.S. degree.  After teaching in a Christian High School in Kentucky a few years, she returned to Dickson County where she taught for over 26 years.  She taught third, fourth, and sixth grades as well as one year of Home Economics at Dickson County High School, where she met her husband, Jack.

Roberta joined First United Methodist Church at age 12.  She was active at home and church participating in many different roles.  A great source of joy for her was serving as an MYF Counselor and doing “Family Ministry” with Jack.   She particularly liked the Mother/Daughter banquets.  She enjoyed helping with music in the Sunday School classes and singing in the choir for many years.  Up until the last couple of years, she was active in the Mary Martha Circle, Keeping in Touch Ministry, and Searchers Sunday School Class.

After retirement, she was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and was joined by Jack after he retired.  She volunteered for Hospice work for a brief time as well.  Her love of traveling led her to a position on the advisory Board for Classic Club at First Federal Bank.  She belonged to the MacDowell Music Club and the Dickson Book Review Club.

Roberta loved people and was always happy when she was with friends and family.  Her hobbies included playing the piano, sewing, crafts, reading, and traveling.

Survivors include her three children, Mark (Kathy) Brown of Burns, Denise (Randy) Brison of Dickson, and Denette (Rick) Speigner of Dickson; her grandchildren Todd (Kate) Brison, Andrew (Karah) Brown, Ian Brison, Stephen Brown, Amber Speigner, and Allen Speigner; several special nieces and nephews. The family wishes to acknowledge the longtime support and friendship of caregiver, Mrs. Ann Sullivan.

Those desiring may make memorials to First United Methodist Church Christian Life Center.
