Funeral services will be conducted Monday morning, January 28, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of the Taylor Funeral Home. Bro. Gary Hargrove and Bro. Sid Nance will officiate. Place of rest will be in the Liberty Cemetery.  Visitation with family and friends will be Sunday afternoon, January 27th from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Monday beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of service.

Those desiring, memorials are suggested to the Shriner’s Hospital or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Mr. Southerland, known to family and friends as “Cornbread,” age 77, of Dickson, TN died Thursday, January 24, 2019, at TriStar Horizon Medical Center.

He was born in Charlotte, TN, son of the late William Thomas and Aleze Isabel Foster Southerland. He was preceded in death by his sister, Wanda Jill Nesbitt and his brother, Jim Greer Southerland.  He was educated in Dickson County schools and was a Class of 1959 graduate of Charlotte High School. He played football, #13, while in high school and later attended Harding University 1959-1961.  He was a boilermaker and a general foreman with Daniel Construction.  Later, he worked as an insurance agent and finally employed at Teskid.

Ned was a 32 degree Mason, Scottish Rite Mason, and a York Rite Mason; he was also a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Some of his past time interests was being involved in politics. He was artistic in nature, a jokester, loved playing matchmaker, and loved to cook and share with others.  As a Christian, Ned was very knowledgeable about the Bible.  He loved his family and was so proud of his kids and grandkids and their abilities.  He loved nothing more than to pick at all of the kids.

Survivors include his five children, Gwen Bishop and her husband, Gary, Tim Southerland, Curtis Southerland and wife, Melissa, Jon Southerland and wife, Jessica, and Thomas Southerland and wife, Amy; his thirteen grandchildren, Jason (Ivy) Bishop, Dakota (Crystal) Bishop, Eli Southerland, Isabella Southerland, Levi Southerland, Zoe Southerland, Eliza Southerland, Judd Southerland, Ian Southerland, Lucas Southerland, Pete Southerland, Oliver Southerland, Henry Southerland; great-grandchild, William Bishop; sister in law, Jean Southerland; brother in law, Johnny Nesbitt, and cousins, aunt, uncle, nieces and nephews.
