Judge Durwood Glenn Moore passed away peacefully on April 9, 2019.  He was born in Dickson, Tennessee on April 11, 1938, to the late Artie Estelle Vineyard Moore and Charles William Glenn Moore.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancye Travis Moore, and their three sons, Rusty Moore (Beth) of Nashville, Johnny Moore (Lisa) of Dickson, and Jody Glenn Moore of Dickson.  He is also survived by his grandchildren Justin Glenn Moore, Ellen Grace Moore, Wilson Roe Moore, Samuel Travis Moore, and Elizabeth "Ellie" Beasley Moore, great- granddaughter Madison Moore, and his niece, Debra Brawner.

 

Judge Moore grew up in Dickson and was a 1956 graduate of Dickson High School where he was a member of the Dragon football team and president of the Future Farmers club.  He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 1961 where he was a founding member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.  Judge Moore began his career in agriculture with the Farmers Coop in West Tennessee and later worked for Gulf Oil and W.R. Grace in the agriculture field.  In 1974, he was elected General Sessions Judge for Dickson County and was re-elected for five consecutive terms serving on the bench for 40 years.  While serving as Judge, he entered law school and graduated from the Nashville School of Law in 1989.  He was a member of the Dickson County Bar Association and practiced law in Dickson and the surrounding counties until his retirement.  

 

Judge Moore was a Mason, a Shriner, and an Elder in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.   He was also a member of the Dickson United Methodist Church and was active in many community organizations during his life.  Judge Moore was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed farming, hunting, boating, and fishing, and he was proud to be a lifelong Democrat and Tennessee Volunteer.

 

A service honoring the life and legacy of Judge Moore will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home on Friday, April 12, 2019.  A Masonic Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at Taylor Funeral Home.  Family will begin receiving friends from 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. and on Friday beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, The Kidney Foundation, or the American Red Cross.
