     Funeral Mass will be Wednesday June 19, 2019 at 11 AM at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church with Father Justin Raines officiating. Place of rest will be in the Middle TN Veterans Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday June 18th from 4 to 8 PM with a Rosary service at 7 PM at Taylor Funeral Home. Those desiring memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
     Mr. James C. Winters, age 86 of Burns, TN died Saturday June 15, 2019. Born in Jacksonville, IL he was the son of the late John J. and Florence Flynn Winters. He graduated from Jacksonville High School and The University of Southern Illinois at Carbondale, where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration. Mr. Winters worked for Cal Western Life in Sacramento, California, before moving to Tennessee to work at NLT in Nashville. He retired from The State of Tennessee, where he worked as the Deputy Commissioner of Commerce and Insurance. Mr. Winters was a U. S. Air Force Veteran and a member of St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Dickson, TN.
     Mr. Winters met Joan Rogers, his wife of 57 years when the two met in Sacramento in 1961. They married on October 20, 1962 and had three children before moving to Tennessee. During his time in California, Mr. Winters was an avid softball player, and enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas. He passed that love of hunting and fishing to each of his children. Mr. Winters devoted his service to St. Christopher’s Catholic Church, where he was a long-standing member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a jokester and had a nickname for everyone. He was known for his mischievous grin and twinkling blue eyes. In retired life, Mr. Winters enjoyed traveling with his wife, and attending his grandchildren’s ball games and band events. He rarely missed a game.

     Survivors include his wife, Joan A. Winters of Burns, TN; sons, Stephen Winters (Rita) of Burns, TN, Jason Winters (Judy) of Charlotte, TN; daughter, Cheryl Shively (Van) of Columbia, TN; sister, Patricia Little of Winchester, IL; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild.
