Luther Kimbro, of Dickson, TN, passed away January 17th, 2020 at the age of 90.

He was born on October 10, 1929 in Dickson County to the late Leslie and Roberta (Luther) Kimbro. He is survived by his sons - David (Pam) Kimbro, Keith (Mary) Kimbro, and Bryan (Lisa) Kimbro, and daughter - Beth (Kendall) Savely, twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, brother - Johnny (Alice) Kimbro, and sisters – Oma Wells and Maggie (Jim) Garzoni.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years - Shirley Kimbro, his sons – Dennis Kimbro and Steven Kimbro, and his sisters – Lona Mai “Tootsie” Cathey and Irene Garton.

As a young man, Luther left his home, like so many did at the time, to find work in Michigan.  It wasn’t long before he met and married the love of his life, Shirley Ilene Bray, in 1950. They had five sons over the course of 16 years, moved back to his hometown of Dickson, TN in 1969, had a daughter in 1970, and opened Luther Kimbro’s Paint and Wallpaper Store on Main Street in 1974. Shirley ran the store, and Luther painted and wallpapered houses all over town with the help of several of their sons. After 38 years in business, while they were both in their early 80’s, they finally decided to retire and close the store. They attended and/or were members of three different churches while in Tennessee: First Baptist Church in Dickson, Harpeth Valley Community Church (now Harpeth Baptist Church) in Kingston Springs, and Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Dickson.

Husband of one, father of six, and friend to all, Luther was the epitome of a godly, Christian man. He always put others first. It was as if he couldn’t help it…like it was part of his DNA.  Of course, we all know how much he loved the Lord.  If you were blessed enough to spend any time with him, you know this because he most likely shared the Gospel with you.  As far as we know, he never went on a mission trip, but he acted as if he was on one every day by helping people as best he could and sharing his faith with whomever would listen, whether it be his waitress at a restaurant or one of his many customers. “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Mathew 25:23
