Mr. Bobby Joe Prosser, age 78 of Dickson, TN died Sunday March 8, 2020. Bobby Prosser was born and raised in southern Middle Tennessee in the area of Marshall and Bedford Counties. He was the son of the late Edward Henry and Ruth Whorley Prosser. He met his wife of 58 years, Bettye Poplin, at Shelbyville Central High School. Together they raised five daughters making Dickson County their home for the last forty-two years.
Bobby was a Christian and served actively in the church. He and Bettye were members of the Walnut Street church of Christ, and, previously he was an elder for over twenty years at the Pond church of Christ.
Bobby was an avid traveler. He and Bettye visited all fifty states together. He loved traveling with friends and family and organized several group trips for his children and grandchildren.

He retired from the State of Tennessee Department of Correction after serving at the Main Prison in Nashville, the Turney Center in Only, Tennessee, and the Deberry Special Needs Facility in Nashville where he supervised gardening and landscaping.
After retirement Bobby was active in several local Civic organizations including the Dickson Morning Rotary Club and the Kiwanis Club in which he served as a past president. He was also a volunteer with the Dickson County chapter of the American Cancer Society.
Although his career was in agriculture and correction, Bobby’s passion was in history and genealogical research. He was a past president of the Dickson County Historical and Genealogical Society. At the time of his death, he was the president of the Christopher Strong Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. He worked diligently to honor our country’s patriots and to help others to research their family history. He established relationships with many “cousins” across the country who also researched their ancestry and preserved our country’s history, and he contributed to many genealogical societies.
