Mary Ruth Jones Barber, age 87, of Dickson, TN passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on June 16, 2020.

She was born March 5, 1933 in Fowlkes, Tennessee, daughter of the late Robert and Susie McCanless Jones. She married the love of her life, Charles Ralph Barber in September of 1952.  Ralph preceded her in death on January 6, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her beloved sisters and brothers, her son-in-law Daryl Dillehay, and her grandson Todd Pruett.

Ruth and Ralph raised their four girls in a loving and hard-working home. The family of six moved to Dickson in 1965 when Ralph became the manager of the former Ben Franklin Store in downtown Dickson. Ruth worked for the Roger White Law Firm and then for many years she worked for Larry Redden Metropolitan Life Insurance as his administrative assistant.  She retired from Metropolitan Life in 1992. Ruth also started her life dream of opening a Christian bookstore in Dickson called Ruth’s.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Dickson where she attended the Odds and Ends Sunday School Class.

Ruth loved to cook, bake, sew and in her younger days she loved gardening. Ruth and Ralph also loved to entertain and are well-known for the amazing sledding parties they had each winter for every "good snow”.  All who were able to make their way to their home with their sleds were welcome. Ralph would build a bonfire and Ruth would make chili and hot chocolate for everyone.

Most of all Ruth loved her daughters and instilled in them strong values and love of family and friends that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Ruth is survived by her four daughters, Charlene Dillehay of Dickson, Beth Gray of Bon Aqua, Lorrie Pruett and her husband, Teddy of Dickson and Suzanne Sherley and her husband, Dr. Lance Sherley of Clarksville; grandchildren, Caleb Gray, Mary Beth Gamble and her husband, John, Selina Winfrey and her husband, Daniel, Muranda Deloach and her husband, John, Katie Pruett, Seth Sherley, Kelsey Gibbs and her husband Chase, and Jordan Sherley; nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandson; also last but not least her faithful cat, Peanut.
