Funeral services for Bro. Houston A. Tidwell, age 94 of the Abiff area of Burns, will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 10, 2020 from the House of the Lord Church on 1055 Eli Rd., Bon Aqua, with Bro. Stuart Brooks officiating.  Interment will follow in the Tidwell Cemetery, which is in the vicinity of the churchyard.  The family will receive friends at Taylor Funeral Home on Friday from 3 until 8 p.m. and at the Church on Saturday from 12 noon until service time.  Bro. Tidwell died at his home Wednesday, October 7, 2020, following an extended illness.

Born in Dickson County, Bro. Houston was the son of the late Walter A. and Cora Frances Buttrey Tidwell.  He put the Lord first in his life, followed closely by his love for his family.  His wife of nearly 75 years, Bertie Mai Tidwell, preceded him in death on September 17th.  He proudly witnessed for his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ by serving as Pastor and preaching the Gospel at the House of the Lord Church until his age and infirmities made it difficult for him to continue in that role.  He “passed that torch” to his son-in-law, Bro. Stuart Brooks, who currently serves the Church in that capacity.  For many years, he was bi-vocational as a skilled auto-body shop specialist for Bob Frensley Ford.  He also had life-long interests in farming, gardening, and enjoying the outdoors.

“His Lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things:  enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”  Matthew 25:21-23

Survivors include his son, Jerry Ray Tidwell (Nelda), Lyles, TN; his daughter and caregiver, Debbie Sue Brooks (Bro. Stuart), Bon Aqua, TN; brother, Clinton Tidwell (Georgia Mai), Bon Aqua; three grandchildren, Natosha DuCharme, Jessica Wise, and Tracie Williams; seven great-grandchildren, Jordan, Kalie, Beth, Michael, Ashley, Kayla, and Shukonia; ten great-great grandchildren, Xavier, Jaxon, Brooklyn, Trent, McKinlee, Gavin, Gemma, Skylar, Cooper, and Joseph; several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded by a son, Frank Allen Tidwell; by his brothers, Rufus Tidwell and Hubert Tidwell; and by his sisters, Rosie Williams and Gladys Davidson.
