Joel Thornton McClelland, age 82, of Charlotte, TN passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at Tri Star Horizon Hospital.

He was born in Charlotte, Tennessee to the late V.T. Sr. and Verlie Duke McClelland.  He is also preceded in death by his brothers; V.T. Jr and Herbert, sisters; Virginia, Mary Ann, Clara, Sarah, and Linda.

Joel was a man of God and was a long-time member of Greenwood United Methodist Church.  He was passionate about farming and loved his career as a school bus driver and being the "water man" for 42 years.

He was a graduate of Charlotte High School, class of 1957. Joel was a big guy with a big family and an even bigger heart who never put himself first. He worked tirelessly all of his life to provide for his family. He drove Dickson County school bus #23 for 41 years and was the "water man" for 42 years, too, with 26 years spent at Harpeth Utility District in Charlotte and 16 years at the merged Water Authority of Dickson County.

His unrelenting work ethic was built by generations of farmers that came before him. His purpose and pride were rooted deep in Greenwood soil & in the Dull community. He loved nothing more than his tractor time on Scott Hollow Road, and mushroom hunting every spring. His love of God, family, community, & country was evident to all who knew him. The world was a better place with him in it and his legacy and kindness will live on through those left behind.

He is survived by his wife of forty-nine years; Jackie Heath McClelland, daughters; Jeanae (Johnny) Bates of Dickson, TN and Janna McClelland Abraham of Charlotte, TN, brothers; James McClelland of Charlotte, TN and William “Sharkey” (Jennifer) McClelland of Jackson, TN, two sisters; Brenda (Dwight) Work of Dickson, TN, and Rose (Bob) Baird of Charlotte, TN, grandchildren; Erica (Michael) Rahman, Heath Bates, and Quint Bates,  step great grandchild; Kennedi Street, and several loved nieces and nephews.
