     Funeral services will be Saturday January 16, 2021 at 1 PM from the Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Daniel Hayes Eulogist. Burial will be in the Middle TN Veterans Cemetery on Wednesday January 27th at 12:30 PM. Visitation with the family will be Saturday January 16th from 12 PM noon until time of service.      Lathel Hughes Jr was born in Dickson, Tennessee on August 6, 1941 to the Adam Hughes and Antonia Hagewood Hughes. He departed on Sunday 3rd of January 2021 to go home to his resting place where he will continue his calling to God’s duties. He married his high school sweetheart, Helen M. Edmonson, and they devoted fifty years to a lovely and wonderful marriage, giving birth to one daughter, Stephanie; and as Lathel always said, “she’s as Precious as a Lamb”. As a family, they attended John Westley United Methodist Church in Nashville, Tennessee, where Lathel served on several ministries (for forty-five years): The Men Ministry, Men Choir, Usher Board and, as a member of the Homeless Shelter (Room in the End).
     Lathel received his education in the Dickson County System and attended Hampton High School, graduating in 1961. Upon completion of High School, he enlisted in the United States Army serving from 1961 to 1965. He continued as education at (ANI) Tennessee State University, where he completed his degree in Engineering. After the completion of college, Lathel begun employment at the Ford Motor Company (for thirty years) as an Engineer Technician. He also was employed in an engineer position at Saint Thomas Hospital.
     He leaves behind his best friend, Helen M. Edmonson-Hughes, his devoted daughter, Stephanie Blackwell (Robert), three grandchildren, Danita. L. Cromwell (Nashville TN), SGT. Robert Lathel Blackwell (El-Paso TX), and Ryan (Malinda) Blackwell (North Carolina) and, six grandchildren. Three sisters, Donnie Turner (Detroit MI), Wanda Holmes (Nashville TN), and Wilma J Hughes (Clarksville TN). Four brothers, Huley Hughes (Nashville TN), George (Evelyn) Hughes (Canton GA), Mack (Betty) Hughes (Louisville KY) and Ramson (Karen) Hughes (Clarksburg MD). Sister-in-laws, Bernice Heard, Sylvia Holt, (both of Nashville TN) and brother-in-law, James Edmondson (Columbus Ohio) and, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

    Preceded in death by his much-loved parents, Adam and Antonia Hughes, three beloved sisters, Clara Hughes-Sweatt, Ruby Ramey, and Margaret Keesee-Richard.
