Howard Francis Parkhurst

Memorial services for Mr. Howard Francis Parkhurst, age 94 of Cumberland Furnace were conducted Sunday December 2, 2012 at 1:30 P.M. from the Craggie Hope United Methodist Church. His cremains will be interred in New Hampshire. Howard, a retired logger, died late Thursday November 22, 2012 at his home in Cumberland Furnace. He was the son of the late Nelson Noyce and Hazel Marshall Parkhurst. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Storm Parkhurst and a brother, Winston Parkhurst. He was a native of Amherst and Hollis, New Hampshire where he was a self-employed selective forester for the Town Forest of Hollis and a harvester of quality horse hay. Howard was a respected member of his community serving on the conservation board and responsible for getting an assisted living and senior citizens center started with his generous contribution and vision which is named in his honor, Parkhurst Manor. Locally, he was the oldest surviving member of the Cheatham County United Methodist Laity Club and attended Pegram and Craggie Hope United Methodist Churches. His humility, dry humor, and kind spirit will be remembered by all those influenced by his life. Survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth Carol Parkhurst Quinn of Dickson, TN; son, Warren Howard Parkhurst of Vanleer, TN; his granddaughter, Christine Forst; great grandchildren, Michaela and Emerson Forst; brothers, Austin Parkhurst of Hollis, NH; Arthur Parkhurst of Indianapolis, IN; several nieces and nephews.
