Graveside services for Mrs. Sarah Heard Coleman, age 101 of Nashville formerly of Dickson were conducted Wednesday May 16, 2012 at 2 PM at the Dickson Union Cemetery with Rev. Bill Barger officiating. Mrs. Coleman died Thursday May 10, 2012 at West Meade Place in Nashville. She would have reached 102 in September. She was a native of Dickson County, daughter of the late Allen and Mamie Corlew Heard. She was the youngest of seven children. Her siblings were Minnie, Ann, Elbert and Jim Heard, Mary Long (who also lived to 101) and Lucy Wright. Her husband, Dorsey Coleman, died in 1983. After the death of her husband, she worked at the Dickson County Public Library. She was a regular volunteer for elections and for Red Cross blood drives. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Dickson. In 1996 she moved to McKendree Village in Hermitage. After a stroke in 2000, she lived for several years at Homewood Residence and then at West Meade Place in Nashville. She is survived by three children, Dan Coleman and his wife Barbara of Nashville, Nancy Maynard of California, and Sarah Chester and her husband Michael of St. Louis; four grandchildren: Dana Coleman of Nashville, Eric and Colin Maynard of California, and Heather Maynard of Minnesota; and one great-grandchild, Alyssa Maynard.
