Wilburn Ardell Clifton

Ltc. (Ret.) Wilburn Ardell Clifton, 92, of Chattanooga, formerly of Dickson, TN., died Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at his home.  A service was held Sunday, July 6, 2014 at 2:00pm at the Taylor Funeral Home.  Burial with full military honors followed at the Union Cemetery in Dickson, TN.  

He was born in Dickson, TN on October 12, 1921.  He went into the U.S. Army in September 1940 with Co. E. 117th Infantry TN. National Guard. He was commissioned a second Lieutenant in August 1950, and served in the Pacific during World War II and Korea in 1951. He spent six years in Germany and was assigned as Security Officer for the Defense Atomic Support Agency Weapons Testing Division. His last assignment was Provost Marshal Office, Headquarters Third Army, Fort McPherson, Ga.  He retired in September 1971.  

After his military service he was employed by the State of Georgia and served as the Director of the Manpower Division with the Department of Human Resources in Milledgeville, GA.  He retired in 1983.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dickson, a member of the Dickson Lodge #468; Scottish Rite, Memphis, TN; Menah Temple, Nashville, TN; Eastern Star Chapter 291, Dickson TN; VFW #4641 Dickson, TN; and the Dickson American Legion.  He was a member of the Chattanooga Chapter and the Milledgeville, GA chapter of the Retired Officers Associations.  He was a past president of the Georgia Retired Officers Association, and was a charter member and President of the European Shrine Club.  He was also a member of the Disabled Veterans Association.

He was the son of the late Wesley and Willie Clifton of Dickson, TN.  His wife, Chrystabelle Brown Clifton, preceded him in death. Survivors include his daughter, Dr. Judith Rice (Martin), and a granddaughter, Ava C Mimbs.
