Mr. Joseph Robert “Pop” Curcio, Sr., age 96 of Dickson, died Monday morning, January 26, 2015 at Lakeshore Heartland in Nashville.  Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2015 from the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Baggett officiating.  Interment followed in the Dickson County Memorial Gardens.  For those desiring memorials may make them to Lakeshore Heartland Senior Living Care. 

Mr. Curcio began his life, the child of Italian immigrants, on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. He served his country during the Second World War and, while stationed at Camp Campbell, KY, met and married the love of his life, Minnie Susan Hasley of Dickson. 

The Curcios spent their working years as restaurateurs in Staten Island, New York where they raised their children and built their life. In retirement years, Joe and Minnie moved back to Dickson, Tennessee where their life together began to be close to grandchildren and other family. 

During more than thirty years of retirement, Joe and Minnie became active members of the Dickson community, Joe was instrumental in his family’s business named for him “Pop’s Carwash”, they were members of the Walnut Street Church of Christ, and regular attendees at the many activities, dances, and musical nights at the Dickson Senior Citizens Center. Joe was also a member of the American Legion and the VFW of New York City.  

Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Minnie Hasley Curcio, and his four brothers Anthony, Nicholas, Rocko, and Giuseppe. Survivors include daughter Betty Maloney of Indian Rocks Beach, Fla., Carolyn Pape and her husband Vincent of Belleview, son Joe Curcio, Jr. and his wife Melissa of Dickson, son James Curcio of Indian Rocks Beach, Fla. The Curcios had 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren.
