Richard Andrew "Rick" Poole
Date of Death or Service Apr 27, 2014

Mr. Richard Andrew “Rick” Poole, age 60, passed from this life into eternal rest Sunday April 27, 2014, at his home in Dickson.  A funeral service was held Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of the Taylor Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Baggett and Bro. George Caudill officiating. Place of rest is in the Dickson County Memorial Gardens.

Born in Nashville, Rick moved to Dickson when he was six, where he quickly made lifelong friends.  He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 576, and as a teenager, reached the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Dickson High School in 1971. Shortly thereafter, he married the love of his life, Alice. Following his graduation from Austin Peay State University in 1978, Rick worked for seven years for the Tennessee Dept. of Property Assessments as their Timber and Mineral Appraisal Specialist before launching his own business and working for 22 years as a residential real estate appraiser.

Rick loved few things more than spending a day on the water, be it fishing, boating or canoeing. He also enjoyed backpacking and camping on the Cumberland Plateau in his younger days. An avid gardener, Rick grew (and ate) peppers so hot that they were guaranteed to cause regret in anyone who felt up to the challenge of eating them.

Outside of his love for the outdoors, Rick enjoyed attending NHRA drag races, listening to live music, and cooking for others.  He always relished seeing others enjoy his cooking. He was also a natural-born story-teller with a great sense of humor. It made him the life of the party and indisputably the “coolest dad” in the opinion of his daughters’ friends as they were growing up. (Elena and Leslie agreed.)

But for all Rick’s enthusiasm for his hobbies, nothing could compare to his love for his family and his commitment to the service of others, especially those people who were unable to help themselves. He had a heart for the downtrodden and the struggling, and he was always willing to go the extra mile.  He also cherished his church family at Walnut St. Church of Christ, especially his “Jerusalem” class, who have supported and loved him. He will be loved and remembered by many whose lives he touched through the Walnut St. Church of Christ Mission Houses, the “Jerusalem” class, and in his daily life.  Rick was a wonderful husband, a loving father, a doting grandfather and a loyal friend.  He will be terribly missed.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Alice Lazenby Poole of Dickson; daughters, Elena Orr (Andy) of Burns, Leslie Ware (Jackson) of Brentwood; brother, Robert D. “Bob” Poole (Sherri) of Bon Aqua; sister, Terresa “Terri” Roberts (Herb) of Maryville; and grandchildren, Sidney Jackson Ware IV and Cadence Christine Orr, several aunts and an uncle, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Sibyl Norman Poole and Robert L. Poole.
