On the morning of June 29, 2015, Dorothy Earnestine Carr was called home to be with the Lord after a long incredibly brave and bold fight with illness at 81 years old.  She was surrounded and comforted by her loving and committed family when she crossed over.  Visitation will be held on Friday, July 3, 2015 from 10:30am until 12:30pm at the Taylor Funeral Home.  A graveside service is scheduled for Friday, July 3, 2015 at 1pm at the East Dickson Cemetery with Rev. Gregg Powell officiating.

Dorothy Carr was born in Dickson, Tennessee on August 22, 1933 to Elizabeth Breedlove and Harry Stone.

From a tender age, Dorothy was always outspoken and vivacious.  From serving and graduating as Class President of Hampton High School of Dickson, Tennessee to moving to Nashville and continuing her life, she was always a natural born leader and trailblazer.

Dorothy retired from the State of Tennessee after more than 30 years of working as a Corrections Officer for MTRC. She was able to touch people, no matter where they were or who they were.  The detainees at MTRC lovingly called Dorothy “Mama” or “Mama Carr” because she never passed up an opportunity to mentor and minister to the men at the facility. Before working with MTRC, she worked with the CEP program where served as a recruiter and assisted in placing people in jobs.

Dorothy Carr was a loyal and faithful servant of the Lord.  She was a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee for over 38 years.  She sang in the choir, served as a Greeter, actively participated in the Women’s ministry, and various other ministries of the church.  Dorothy was infamous for bending over backwards for anyone in need.  She wouldn’t hesitate to hand you the shirt off her back.  She routinely baked cakes and pies, made corsages for special events, and volunteered her time at various nursing homes. Church members lovingly nicknamed her “Carr,” “Sister Carr,” or “Mother Carr.”

Memories are shared by her loving and devoted sister who never left her side, Marsha Dianne Hardeman; Nephews, Cedric Breedlove and his devoted wife, Lajuanna Breedlove, Darren Hardemon, Charles Harry Stones Jr. and his Wife, Angela; Great nieces and nephews, Cedric Thompson (Monica Breedlove), Cydnei Breedlove, Kyndrich Breedlove, Khari Breedlove, Quantez Blair, Darrisha Rice, and last but certainly not least, Keiosha Alexander, whom she without question nor hesitation lovingly raised through adulthood.

Cousins: Dorothy Stone, Dianne Williams, Jewel Stone, Wilma Redding, James and Derrick Reddon, Alicia Hollinger, Tonya Crutcher, Steve and Yvette Breedlove, Wilma Jean Childress, Jeffrey Childress, Lean Childres, Sherian and George Hollinger, Wendy Stone, Sherry Stone, Chuckie Stone, and Charlene Stone.

Close friends: Loretta Ellison, Omega Wilcox, Elsie Weatherspoon, Mary McWherter, Pastor Gregory Powell, Norma Jean Upshaw, and the Morning Star family.

"They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.  They shall mount up on wings as eagles.  They shall run and not be weary.  They shall walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:31
