Jeffrey “Jeff” Alan Smith passed unexpectedly Christmas Day 2016 at the family farm surrounded by loved ones.  He was a true gentleman with a warm and welcoming heart.  “Be Kind. If you treat every person that you come in contact with like they are hurting; you won't miss by much.” These are words that Jeff lived by. He believed that life was precious and that each of us are connected. Each needing to feel special, valued and appreciated; which is exactly how he made you feel. He knew no stranger and treated everyone with love, respect and kindness.

Jeff was born November 21, 1971 in Montgomery, Alabama to Willard W. Smith Sr. and the late Judith Pollard Smith. Jeff is survived by his loving wife Kelly Jackson Smith of Burns, Tennessee, his father Willard (Sue) Smith, sister Kim Chapman, brother Dusty (Karen) Smith, step-brother Kevin Carpenter and step-sister Karen (Tim) Snyder. Jeff is also survived by his father and mother-in-law, A. Andrew Jackson and Elaine Lannom Jackson, his sister-in-law Sally and her husband Patrick Francis Ryan. Jeff was a great and favorite uncle to his nieces and nephews, Zack Chapman (fiancé Monica), Courtney Chapman, Ashley Smith and Sydney (Greg) Howard. Jeff also is survived by a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jeff was smart, resourceful, and ambitious; and he had a great sense of humor. He graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in Montgomery then attended the University of Alabama, where he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Jeff completed his final year of college at home, receiving his Bachelor of Arts from Auburn University at Montgomery. He moved from Alabama to Tennessee more than ten years ago, but remained loyal to Alabama, Roll Tide!  Jeff and his wife Kelly loved spending weekends at Tuckahoe Farm with the family and their black lab, Cracker. He had an affinity for finely tailored clothing and creating his own signature style. The common theme in Jeff’s life is that we all loved him. People gravitated to Jeff’s happiness and childish wonder for life.  We will all miss his smile; which always seemed to say “Take it easy. It’ll all work out.

Jeff would want us to hold him close in mind and spirit so raise a glass to a favorite memory of him and celebrate his life; and always remember something he once said “obstacles in the path are not obstacles, they ARE the path.” Please know that Jeff is rejoicing with his mother in heaven.  Long live his love that comes down and through and onto all of us.  In lieu of flowers please send donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital DONATE HERE.

Jeff’s Memorial will be held at Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson, Tennessee on Friday December 30, 2016 at 6:00pm with visitation from 4:00 to 6:00pm.
