Born in Hickman County, John T. was the son of the late Grover and Mattie Morgan Cathey. His mother died when John was still a baby and his father married Mable Cathey, who became his “second mother”. He worked in the construction business as a home builder and was a member of White Bluff Church of Christ. Mr. Cathey loved life and his family and never met a stranger. An outdoorsman, some of his interests included rabbit hunting, traveling, the art of the gamble, and coaching Little League and softball in White Bluff.
Mr. Cathey was preceded in death by two daughters, Lisa Cathey and Charlotte Rose Cathey; his brother, Jess Cathey; and four half-brothers, Gene Cathey, Kale Cathey, Charlie Cathey, and Jay Cathey.
Survivors include six children, Vickie Diane Brown (Michael), Mt. Juliet, Shirley Taylor, LaVergne, TN, Ricky Cathey (Connie), Billy Cathey, and Johnny Cathey (Tiffany), all of White Bluff, and Larry Cathey (Ira), Tucson, AZ; grandchildren, Tracy Taylor, Mike Brown, Jr., Eric Brown, Amanda Cathey, and Lauren Cathey; great-grandchildren, Talen Brown, Caleb Brown, Maddox Brown, Hailey Hunter, Eathen Hunter, Jerrica Pack and Derek Pack; half-brother, Clayton Cathey and half-sister, Mamie Rose Cathey, both of Dickson.
