    Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of the Taylor Funeral Home.  Rev. Steven Lee will officiate and her daughter, Betsy Sawyer Duke will give her eulogy.  Visitation will be Tuesday evening, May 16th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday beginning at 10:00 a.m. until time of service.  Place of rest will be in the Williams Addition of the Dickson Union Cemetery.

   Mrs. Sawyer, known as Tib by family and friends and later as Tibby by her grandchildren, family and friends, died May 13, 2017 at Centennial Medical Center after a short stay.  She would have turned 95 on May 17th.

   Those desiring, memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund or to the Swan Creek Cemetery Fund.

   Tib was born on Swan Creek in Hickman County, daughter of the late Walter and Georgia Anna Hutchison Smithson.  She attended a one room school in the Sunrise Community in Hickman County.  She was the widow of the late Joseph Neil Sawyer.  They were married for 57 years. She was a longtime employee with the phone company.  She started out as a switchboard operator in Centerville, TN, working later in Dickson and retiring in the Clarksville office.  As technology changed she progressed in the company working with Southern Bell, later South Central Bell, and retiring as a Bell South employee. She had 35 years of service.

   She was raised in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and when she moved to Dickson, TN she united with the First United Methodist Church where she has been a member for 64 years.  She attended the Fellowship Sunday School Class for many years, loved to play bridge, member of Telephone Pioneers, and enjoyed the local book review club.

Survivors include her daughter, Betsy Sawyer Duke, her two granddaughters, Elizabeth (Beth) Duke and Kelli Ann Myers and her husband, Blair, her great grandchildren, Molly Elizabeth and Jack Myers, and sister, Sarah Wilkins.

Active casket bearers will be Don Smithson, Mike Smithson, Rodney Wilkins, Gary Sawyer, Blair Myers, Warner Taylor and Jack Myers. Honorary will be Ronnie Allen, Angie Jackson, Sue Wills and Lynette Pulley and members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.

A special thank you from Tibby’s family to her caregivers for all the love and care they gave her, allowing her to be able to stay in her home until the very end.
