Those desiring, memorials are suggested to the J.B. and Mary Gaither Memorial Scholarship at Freed-Hardeman University or to Walnut Street Church of Christ Youth Group.

Mrs. Williams, age 74, of Dickson, TN died peacefully Sunday, January 21, 2018 at her home with her family by her side.

Ruby Elizabeth Gaither Williams was born on April 13, 1943, the middle child of five, a “preacher’s kid” to J. B. and Mary Gaither in Springfield, Tennessee. She was a graduate of Gallatin High School, Class of 1961.

On June 30, 1961, she married Jim Williams at her family’s home in Gallatin, Tennessee. Jim and Ruby were blessed with three children, Robin, Ted, and Troy, all born in Gallatin. In 1972, they left Gallatin and moved to Dickson. Through the years since then, their children blessed them with six grandsons and one granddaughter.

For 45 years now, the Williams family has worshiped with the church family that meets at the corner of Center and Walnut Streets. Lately Ruby missed being involved with whatever is going on with the church. However, it brought her great joy to recall the years when she was able to spend her days ministering to others.

Ruby Williams’ wish is that you will remember her for the 26 years she taught the Wednesday Night Ladies Class, heading up the shower teams at church, supervising the pre-school Bible classes, teaching the 3-4 year olds on Sunday nights, and for organizing the gift card bags.

She desired to be remembered as a servant, rather than an individual. In her own words, “While I can’t be remembered for my youth, To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.” Ecc. 3:1

She also enjoyed selling Home Interiors for over 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.B. and Mary Campbell Gaither, and a sister, Patricia Green.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jim; daughter, Robin Nelson; 2 sons, Ted and wife Sharon, Troy and wife Traci; all of Dickson, TN, her 7 grandchildren, Dan and Brantley Nelson of Dickson, TN, Caleb Williams of Memphis, TN; Jacob, Enoch, Houston and Katie Williams, all of Dickson, TN; her 2 sisters, Frances Jones and Sandra Pitchford, her 1 brother, John B. Gaither, Jr., several nieces and nephews.

Her Grandsons and Her Granddaughter will serve as casket bearers. Walnut Street Shepherds and their wives and the Walnut Street  Youth Chorus and Alumni will serve as Honorary bearers.
