On Tuesday morning, November 5, 2019, Anna Bell Holliman Aydelott left this life behind at the age of 97. Born to William Esker and Crongie Holliman of Pleasant Shade, TN on June 14, 1922, Ann was one of five children. At a time when the shadows of World War I and the Great Depression were still cast across the country, Crongie Holliman, in particular, was determined to provide an education for her children. Not only did all five attend college, but four of the five became teachers including Ann. At Tennessee Technological University, she met Prince Aydelott, whom she married on August 1, 1944. They were shy of their 70th anniversary by two weeks when Prince died in 2014.
Prince and Ann were always active in their church work. They helped start what is now the Hartsville Pike Church of Christ in Gallatin, TN. While members at both the Walnut Street Church of Christ and Pomona Church of Christ in Dickson, TN, both Ann and Prince taught classes for many years.
Ann personified teaching. Her career began in a one room schoolhouse on Dean Hill in Smith County. She also taught in the Karns High School in Knoxville, TN, Vena Stuart Elementary in Gallatin, TN, and Oakmont Elementary School in Dickson, TN where she retired in 1984. Generations of families count "Mrs. Aydelott" among their best teachers. Even in her last days when communication was reduced to using a dry erase board, Ann would still correct grammar and spelling.
While teaching was what Ann was born to do, her family was her passion. After retirement, nothing gave her more pleasure than to have her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren around her.
Besides her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Prince Aydelott, sisters Geneva Breeding, Julou Dodson, Mildred Holley, and one brother, Mack Holliman. She is survived by two daughters, Becky Cline (Sherman), Betsy Anderson (Eddie), four grandchildren, Rachel Hedge (Chris), Cali Anderson Watts (Devin), Cory Anderson (Jessica), Evans Cline (Holly), and ten great-grandchildren, Charlie & Sophie Hedge, Blake, Hattie, and Anderson Watts, Olivia, Greyson, and Zoe Cline, and Jax & Emma Anderson.
The family wishes to thank Taylor Funeral Home, Caris Hospice, and Ann's wonderful caregivers who loved her as their own.
