Laura Dell Fossie Blue was born on September 12, 1932 in Dickson, Tennessee, to Velma and Zed Fossie.  She departed this life on December 21, 2020 at the NHC facility in Dickson. She was a lifelong member of Bowman Chapel United Methodist Church in Dickson

Laura Dell as she was affectionately known—was a beautiful, intelligent, athletic, and gifted young lady who grew up to become one of the most respected women and members of the community. Her love and passion for the Lord and for her family were unquestioned as she spent her entire life in the Dickson community.

She was an exceptional student and graduated as the Salutatorian for the Hampton High School Class of 1951. Those gifts and talents motivated her to become one of the best examples of a Godly woman. Devoted to her family and to raising her children she would often say that “I gave you all to the Lord because I knew I needed His help raising you all” As a woman of faith, she was most proud that each child grew up knowing the Lord and eventually surrendered their lives to Jesus. She was an avid reader and had a collection of books that would rival some libraries.  Her passion for sharing knowledge and an occasional spirited debate also became something that she passed to her children. She was renowned in the Dickson community as a songstress and talented vocalist who could call down the power and spirit of heaven with an anointed voice that was used to heal, comfort, strengthen and deliver peace. Her love for flowers and gardening meant there was an eruption of vibrant colors and fragrances in her yard as she tended to the hundreds of plants and flowers she carefully nurtured.
She was multi-faceted through the years when she was not working at home as a full time mother. She also did stints as a Teacher’s aide in the Dickson School System, a Correctional Officer for the Women’s Prison in Nashville, Red Kap factory worker, and as a member of the restaurant staff for the Montgomery Bell State Park. Her talents and lessons learned from feeding seven children and her sweetie Robert Blue, Sr. became a hallmark —as it was not unusual to have thirty plus people in the house for Sunday dinners. It was especially vibrant during the holidays of Thanksgiving and her favorite time of year —Christmas.
Her 5’6” frame was not weak as she maintained a strength that would rival those half of her age and her spirit remained young despite the many trials and tribulations she endured through the years. Those developed a powerful ability to focus on believing and knowing the Word of God which she sang and prayed each day and made it a consistent part of who she was throughout her life. If you wanted someone to pray for you—it was Laura Dell. She reached heaven and there were many testimonies of healings, breakthroughs, and supernatural interventions that simply could not be explained.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, George Overton, Sr; two children, Bettina Overton and George Overton, Jr. and her husband of 54 years, Robert I. Blue, Sr. She leaves behind to mourn five children: Benny (LaRetta) Overton, Rusty Overton, Lori (Darrel) Tyson, Robert (Anita) Blue, Jr. all of Dickson, TN and Randy (Sylvia) Blue of Brentwood, TN.
She leaves behind more than 40 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Beloved Siblings and in-laws including brother, Marvin Fossie, sister-in-law, Delois Fossie all of Dickson, TN and sister, Bettie Robertson of Columbus, OH and a host of nieces,  nephews and cousins.
Near and very dear to her heart as well —members of the Bowman Chapel United Methodist Church, Dickson, TN
