     Funeral services will be Saturday January 9, 2021 at 3 PM from the Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Baggett officiating. Place of rest will be in the Dickson County Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be Saturday January 9th from 2 PM until time of service.      Mr. Elgie Luther Byrd, age 92 of Dickson, TN, known to his grandchildren as “Poppa”, passed away Wednesday January 6, 2021. Luther was born in Nashville, TN, the son of the late Elgie E. and Lorene Ballinger Byrd. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Todd Byrd. Luther retired from Westinghouse, where he worked as a Purchasing Agent. He loved his travels out west. His favorite places to visit were Yellowstone Park and the Grand Tetons. He also enjoyed going to Florida to enjoy the beach. Luther’s kindness and contagious smile is what drew people to him. He enjoyed watching his favorite Western shows and reading his books. Luther was a Korean War veteran and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Walnut Street Church of Christ.

     Luther is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dean Peppers Byrd of Dickson, TN; sons, Matt Byrd (Kim) of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Jeff Byrd of Mt. Juliet; daughters, Judy Johnson (Dale) of Kingston Springs, TN, Gina Daniels (Vince) of Scottsdale, AZ, Nancy Byrd of Idledale, CO; 5 grandchildren, Alex Byrd, Caitlin Callaway, Hope Daniels, Gray Daniels, Chelsea Carter; 2 great grandchildren, Victoria Byrd, Tilley Byrd.
