Warren Edward “Ed” Shirk departed to his eternal rest when he succumbed to COVID on December 19, 2020. Born in 1953, Ed was the sixth child of Warren and Grace Shirk. His life began in Atmore, Alabama where he grew up with his older siblings Martha, Erma, Leon, Edie, Stanley, and his younger siblings Janet, Dale, and Sanford.
Ed married Lorraine on June 30, 1973, and together they raised four children: Susan, Donald, Jonie, and Marcus. Ed loved being a grandpa, and his sixteen grandchildren enjoyed countless hugs and adventures. Ed was “dad” to more than just his four kids. From South Dakota and Montana to Florida and Alaska, Ed shared his time, friendship, faith, and wisdom with those to whom he became known as “Dad Shirk.” Ed loved his parents, brothers and sisters, cousins, and the friends along the way who became family. He and his wife Lorrie taught us how to be family for forty-seven years.
Ed’s professional career reflected the variety of his skills and talents. As a carpenter, builder, leader, manager, teaching parent, instructor, mechanic, first responder, and entrepreneur he filled many roles, rising to the occasion of his circumstances again and again to provide for his family. He volunteered often. Ed volunteered as a cowboy, firefighter, board member, referee, and whatever else he could do to help out and make friends. An avid motorcycle enthusiast, Ed loved the open road and the opportunity to be alone with God in the isolation of roaring wind and rumbling engine.
Ed loved the Lord his God, and he loved his neighbor as himself. While he lived a life of faith and devotion, he put his hope in the death and resurrection of Jesus. On one of his last days in the hospital, he was told that his friends and family were praying that Jesus would be near him. Ed responded with unexpected strength and enthusiasm, “Oh, tell them He is!”

Warren Edward Shirk is survived by his wife, his children, grandchildren, three sisters and four brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents and eldest sister.
