A memorial service to honor the life of Mr. Slater will be held on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at 5:00 PM at the Taylor Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to CASA of Dickson County, and the Dickson Community Clinic.

William Joshua “Josh” Slater passed peacefully Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at his home.

He is survived by his beloved partner of 31 years, Margie Shelby.  He also leaves behind brothers, Thomas (Susan) Slater of Bellevue, TN, James (Carole) Slater of Thompson’s Station; niece Sarah (John) Walsh, Dana Slater; and nephews, Porter and Finnegan Walsh.  Other survivors are his loyal friends, alumni, students, and faculty of DCHS.  He is preceded in death by parents John and Wilma Kage Slater of Franklin, TN, and grandparents, Joshua And Beatrice Slater of Lansing, Michigan.

Josh never met a stranger.  People were to be valued.  Children were a sacred trust.  He was a supporter of public education, and a tireless worker to help Madame with the classroom.  Josh believed in a democratic America that relied on the “better angels of our nature”.  He loved music, movies, art, and learning French.  No matter what the season brought, he was a fan of the University of Tennessee football.

A special thanks goes to Dickson County EMS, Horizon ER, the frontline workers of the covid ward at Horizon, the DMA pharmacists, Dickson Community Clinics and Caris Healthcare.
