Charles was born in Charlotte, TN to Hybernia Corlew McMillan and Joe McMillan. He had one brother, Joseph A. McMillan III. All of whom predeceased him. He loved his family very much, and he provided years of assistance for their care.

He attended Charlotte School and graduated from high school with the honor of salutatorian.  While in high school, he not only excelled in academics, but he also enjoyed being on the basketball and baseball teams. One of his proudest moments was winning the TSSAA Regional baseball tournament with the CHS baseball team, where he played second base.

He went on to study at The University of Tennessee where he earned his B.S and M.B.A degrees. He would continue to be a strong supporter of UT sports throughout his life.

He worked for the Tennessee Department of Transportation for 12 years as a planner and systems analyst.  He later was able to follow his dream of acquiring and renovating old houses.

He was married for 50 years to his wife Susan Stuart McMillan who survives. They enjoyed many good times together with friends and family, often via travels domestic and international.

He loved playing tennis throughout the years and was known for being a huge fan of the sport. He followed every major and was always cheering for Nadal.

His pride and joy arrived in 1986 with the birth of their son, Charles Stuart McMillan.  He was a proud father who enjoyed participating in all of his son’s activities. He particularly enjoyed the years that he coached his son’s Little League baseball teams, where he was able to share his love of baseball with his son.

He loved history relating to his family and Scottish heritage. For several years he attended the Scottish Highland games at Grandfather Mountain.

Charles was a true friend to many. He would go to great lengths to assist a friend when there was a need. He was a soft spoken, gentle person who deeply cared for others – especially those with disabilities.  During his final few years, he enjoyed the get-togethers held for the clients of Mid-TN Supported Living where he loved getting to know the clients while cooking burgers and hot dogs.

He was a man of integrity and strong values.  As one relative stated – he was full of good will and love and it was easy to love him back.  He will be missed by his family and friends.
