Norbert Elliott Carter (Norb), 67, passed away on September 5, 2021, after valiantly fighting to overcome his failing heart in Nashville, TN. Born on October 26, 1953 in Wheeling, WV, he honorably served in the USAF from 1971 through 1976 as an aircraft mechanic. He was a manager of Nationwise Auto Parts in Fort Wayne, Indiana for several years before relocating to Tennessee in 1982 where he began working for Daniel Construction, Inc. on the construction of the Nissan Assembly Plant in Smyrna. After the plant managers witnessed how knowledgeable and skilled Norb was, they offered him a job when the Nissan plant came on line in 1983, where he worked until he took an early retirement in 2008. Norb had a job everyday of his life from his teenage years through his retirement, but he did not let retirement slow him down, so he bought a couple tractor trailer rigs and tried his success in the trucking industry.
Because of the intense competition he succumbed to the economic pressures and decided to go back to working with Nissan. Norb worked on every facet of building a Nissan vehicle, therefore, the manager of Victory Nissan hired him as a customer service representative where the customers and co-workers often referred to him as “Mr. Norb” and he worked there until his passing. Mr. Norb had a variety of skills and talents, including unmatched critical analytical skills about everything in daily life and then some, not to mention the least of him being an honorable, ethical, and a true southern gentleman. Mr. Norb had a tremendous work ethic that was incomparable. Norb never met a stranger because he could always find something in common to discuss or talk about with anyone. In 1996 Norb married the love of his life, Kim and she was there with him through 25 years including the moments of his last breath. Norb and Kim relocated to Dickson in 2001 on a nice little farm of 22 acres.
Norb is survived by Kimberly, their son Ricky Warren, his best friend and brother Dennis and his loving wife Sheila. Other living relatives include sister-in-law Valerie Johnson and her husband Geoff, nieces, Lauren Carter Bernal and her husband Christian, Melissa Gonzales and her husband Jeremy, Sabrina Kennedy and her husband Jonathan, Patricia Jean (PJ) Gomez, Chandra Curtis and her husband Travis, Chassidi Johnson and her husband Chad, nephews Dalton Johnson (aka George), and Dylan Johnson, granddaughter Victoria Doering, grandsons Jaden Warren and Landon King, great grandchildren Aegis and Benjamin Warren.
Norb is preceded in death by his parents, Norbert and Margaret Carter and his brother Bruce.

Norb requested cremation and a memorial service will be held at Taylor Funeral Home, 214 North Main Street, Dickson, TN, 37055 on September 11, 2021. Visitation is 9 AM to 11 AM with a memorial service to immediately follow at 11 AM. Memorial donations should be made to the Disabled American Veterans.   To view a livestream of the service on Saturday at 11:00 AM, please click HERE.
