 A service of remembrance and committal will be held Wednesday Dec.01, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at West End UMC, 2200 West End Avenue. Nashville, TN. There will be a visitation time at the church starting at 1:00 p.m.

Rev. Jacquie Sojourner died peacefully at home on Nov 5, 2021. 

Jacquie was born August 3,1948, in Butte, Montana. She was the first of three children for John and Margaret Conway. Growing up, the family lived in Maine, Connecticut and New Jersey. Jacquie graduated from Lincoln high school in Jersey City. She was involved in drama and represented Christ UMC youth in conference boards and activities.  She graduated from Pfeiffer College where she married Allan Reading in 1967. Graduating in 1970, she lived in Winchester, VA while serving as Director of Christian Education in Arlington, VA. Returning to New Jersey she served churches in Christian ED while attending Drew Seminary where she received her Master of Divinity. In May of 1981 at a theological naming, she became Jacqueline Sojourner. She married O. Price Taylor, “the love of her life” in 1983. The 1990’s found them in Dickson, TN where they resided until 2021.

Reverend Jacqueline Anne Sojourner was ordained in the Elders order of the United Methodist Church.  Rev Sojourner faithfully served in the church in various appointments. Highlights of her long service include serving as the first ever female clergy in many of these congregations.  She served in the following capacities: 1969 Minister, Education, Walker Chapel (VA); 1974 Director Christian Education, Madison (Diac NNJ: 1978 Diaconal Minister, Morrow Memorial (Diac NNJ): 1981 Student, Fairfield (NNJ); 1984 Patterson Ave, (NNJ); 1989 Associate Pastor, Dickson First; 1994 White Bluff-Burns; 1998 Dodson Chapel; 2001 Hillsboro First; 2003 Bethesda-Wesley Chapel; 2005 Bon Aqua-East Hickman Circuit; 2006 Bon Aqua-Kedron-Nunnelly  2007 Mary Chaffin Memorial; 2008 Bethlehem; 2009 McEwen First; 2010 Associate Pastor Dickson First; 2010 Retired.  After retiring Jacquie served as the chair of Archive and History at Westend United Methodist church.  She was hardworking, dedicated and always gave her best. As Pastor Jacquie served the Lord with uncompromising dedication to the best for God,  she showed many parishioners that women were capable  ministers. She was the first woman to serve in several United Methodist Churches. Pastor Jacquie was a great encourager of other women in ministry.  She fostered connection between Christians whenever possible. Her legacy of leadership, service, and connection in love of Christ will endure

Jacquie is survived by her brothers William, his wife Judy and their children Erin and Daniel and Mark, his wife Lois and their children Adrienne and Michael. Stepchildren, Leslie, Steven & Christopher Taylor as well as her many friends, associates, and extended family. One of the highlights of Rev Jacquie’s ministry was when she baptized Mason, her great nephew.
