Matt Brewer will officiate; assisted by Bro. Frank Whitaker, Bro. Bill Coody, and Dr. Mike Miller.  Visitation with the family will be from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at Taylor Funeral Home and on Sunday, at First Baptist from 1 p.m. until service time.  Bro. Bratton entered his Heavenly Home on November 28, 2021.  Interment, with military honors, will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, December 6th at Memphis Memorial Park, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis.  For those desiring, memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, Dickson, or to the American Heart Association.  Pallbearers will be Mike Miller, Steve Shepard, Ryan Wicker, Todd Vermilyea, Ken Metcalf, Tim Hopper, and Jeff Hooks.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Bro. Bratton was the son of the late Katie Louise Carter Bratton and Lewis E. Bratton, Sr.  He received his undergraduate degree from Rhodes College in Memphis, and he earned his master’s degree in Religious Education from Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.  Bro. Bratton served in several churches before coming to First Baptist in Dickson as Minister of Education in the middle 1990’s.  He also served as Minister of Visitation and Pastoral Care.  Bro. Bratton exemplified his Christian calling in all aspects of his life and was known and loved by all who knew him as a kind, caring, and compassionate ambassador for Christ.  He loved people in general and was quick to offer spiritual encouragement to all he met.  He loved spending time with his family (and especially his grandchildren!).  He was an avid reader and studied what he read.  He continued to teach a Sunday School Class until his health prevented him from doing so.  The churches Bro. Bratton served in his 42-year ministry were First Baptist Church, Stillwater, OK, Berclair Baptist Church, Memphis, TN, Arrow Heights Baptist Church, Broken Arrow, OK, Highland Baptist Church, Florence, AL, and First Baptist Church, Dickson, TN.  He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 56 years, Shirley Dougan Bratton, Dickson; his daughter, Jennifer Brewer (Matt), Centerville, TN; his brother, Don Bratton (Bertie), Medina, OH; three granddaughters, Leah Brewer, Rachael Brewer, and Hannah Brewer; nephews, Carter Bratton and Jonathan Phillips; and nieces, Ashley Bratton, Tracie Bratton, and Lauren Imel.
