Barbara Ann Smith Wellons, born in Mississippi on November 6, 1930 went to be with the Lord on December 11, 2021. She had just celebrated her 91st birthday. Barbara had an identical twin sister, Doris Jean, who preceded her in death in 2016. We know there was a beautiful reunion and if there is rummy in heaven, they are playing it.
Barbara was married to J.W. Walls in 1948 for 29 years and together they had three beautiful children. James Andrew, Sherri Ann and Lonnie Allen. Barbara and J.W. owned three businesses, Walls Jewelry & Anshelon’s and Merle Norman. J.W. preceded her in death in 1977. Barbara married again in 1980 to Jim Wellons. They were married for 26 years until Jim’s death in 2006. Barbara worked for the TN Department of Human Services in the Medicare/Medicaid sections until she retired in 1986 and became a farmer’s wife, part time rural mail carrier and private pilot.
Barbara’s favorite past time was watching her birds. There wasn’t a bird alive that she couldn’t name. She would sit for hours at her kitchen table watching them. In the middle of summer, there were too many hummingbirds to count. She was well known for her cooking, especially her signature lemon pound cake which was published in Woman’s Magazine. Barbara was a member of Walnut Street Church of Christ.

Barbara is survived by her children, Lonnie Walls (Cathy), Sherri Terri (Bill); her sister, Wanda Stallings; grandchildren, Faith, Chris, Christina, Jennifer, Andrew and Cody; 4 great grandchildren; two step-children; step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
