     Funeral services will be held Saturday January 29, 2022 at 12:00 PM from the Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Bishop Gary Riley officiating. Place of rest will be in The Chapel of Prayer Mausoleum at Dickson County Memorial Gardens.      Dorothy Earline Williams Buttrey, age 91, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and caretakers on January 21, 2022. Dorothy was Born on March 4, 1930 to Andrew Newton Williams and Nobie Elizabeth Proctor. There were 7 Williams children, 3 girls and 4 boys. Dorothy loved her very large family. She grew up in the Claylick Community and attended a one room school before transferring to William James High School, where she graduated in 1948 with her class of 6 total classmates. She was always involved in activities including playing basketball and cheerleading.
     Dorothy married James "Reuben" Buttrey on January 8, 1949. Reuben had persuaded his parents to allow him to leave high school and join the United States Navy to serve in WWII. He fulfilled his duty and returned home to finish high school and marry his young bride and begin what was a 66 year union.
     Known as Dorothy, Dot, Granny Dot and Dot-Dot, her energy and work ethic was beyond comparison. Her first priority was caring for her 7 children. She would then fulfill her passion and desire to visit the sick and care for those she knew needed help. She was well known for her service to her community and church. Dorothy was a member of Crossroads Church. A church that was founded by merging White Bluff and Claylick Church of God of Prophecy. She always wanted everyone to go to church and know Jesus. She was an avid worker and held numerous church positions during her lifetime. She Directed VBS for years. She served as Building Fund Director. Dorothy spent many summers at Camp Hickory Hills, the Tennessee State Campground for The Church of God of Prophecy where she volunteered at our youth church camps. She was one of the original staff members of The Big Shot Camp, which allowed very young campers to bring a parent and enjoy camp like the older kids. She was well known for a variety of fund raisers that contributed to continued funding and growth of the church. The Annual Apple Butter Festival was one of the most rewarding and well known fundraisers. Dorothy was one of the primary leaders in establishing and helping this annual event become such a success. She was featured on an episode of Tennessee Crossroads. She shared her knowledge of how the church worked together and the apple butter was processed and sold.
     Dot held various jobs in addition to raising her children. Most notably, she was employed by Red Cap Manufacturing Company, Dickson County Board of Education as a school bus driver, Dickson General Hospital and Goodlark Hospital as a CNA. She was known to befriend and help people she encountered in these jobs. She made many friends working and enjoyed getting out to work with others in the public sector.
     Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, James “Reuben” Buttrey, son Randall Buttrey, grandson Caleb Buttrey and great grandson Alex Foster.
     Dorothy is survived by 1 brother, Zollie Williams of White Bluff, TN. Six children, Rebecca Griffin White Bluff, Clay Buttrey (Sandra) Columbia, Philip Buttrey (Marlene) White Bluff, Dinah Hazlett (Tony) Clarksville, Nancy Williams White Bluff, and Scott Buttrey White Bluff. She was the proud grandmother of 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews and many loved ones.
