Born in Hickman County, Mr. Winters was the son of the late Franklin Lewis and Julia Polan Winters. He retired from A. O. Smith Industries as a sheet metal press operator. He served his country during World War II in the U. S. Army. He was in communications in the Anti-Aircraft Unit 684, Battery C. His unit was attached to the U. S. Marine Corps for much of his duty. He was a Rifle Marksman in the Easter Mandates and received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct, and Victory Medals.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife of 61 years, Ruby Shanes Winters; 6 infant and toddler siblings, and by his adult siblings, Lucille Clifton, Lois Eisler, Hazel Braum, Theola Traver, Leslie “Bud” Winters, Marie Martin, Joyce Holland, and Larry Winters.
Survivors include his children, Wayne Winters (Janice Fay) of Bon Aqua, Jimmy Winters (Reba) of Lyles, and Kathy Redden (Bobby) of Bon Aqua; a brother, Bobby Winters (Nina) of Bon Aqua; a sister, Faye Pruitt (Charles) of Bon Aqua; 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
