Ms. Joan Elizabeth Bassham Balitsky – also known to her family as “Gaga” – age 75, of Dickson, passed away peacefully in her home on August 8, 2022. She was born in Giles County, TN, on August 13, 1946, to the late Alfred Joe and Clara Elizabeth White Bassham. She was of the Church of Christ faith.

Joan was a beautician for many years before opening State Beauty Supply with her late husband, John Balitsky, Sr., who predeceased her in 2001. She then went on to work for the Dickson County Board of Education as a daycare worker for several years.

She loved most of all to spend time with her family and especially her grandchildren. Gaga was also great at crocheting, having crafted by hand numerous items for families and to be donated to charity. One of her favorite things to do was to go to crawfish boils with friends and family.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband: John M. Balitsky, Sr.; her daughter: Kelly Dawn Balitsky Hooper; her sisters: Lee Stevenson, Carolyn Newell, and Edith Green.

Survivors include her son: John M. Balitsky, Jr. (Dawn) of Dickson; her sister: Lana Hogin (Bobby) of Dickson; her grandchildren: John Michael Balitsky, III (Leah), Brodie Balitsky, and Amanda Nicole Hooper, all of Dickson; and her four-legged babies: Bella and Rex.

Those serving as pallbearers will be: Keith Newell, Mitchell Newell, Bryant Newell, Scotty Lowe, Terry Dillard, Jason Dillard, Kevin Hogin, and Meno Westmoreland.
