Peggy Joyce Lanier Reddon was born September 1, 1937 and died suddenly at her home September 21, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Ray and Eva Lanier. She was raised in Dickson, Tennessee where she attended elementary school and graduated from Hampton High School; Class of 1955. Peggy accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in the spillway and became a member of Saint James A.M.E. Church.

She was married to the late Horace Dale Reddon for fifty-one years. This union was blessed with six children; Valarie, Phillip, Christopher, Lori, Vincent, and Jason. While her husband was in the service in the U. S. Army she served as secretary at Hampton High School and later the family joined him on tours of duty in Yokohama, Japan, Fort Benning, Georgia and Grafenwoehr, Germany. The family relocated back to Dickson, Tennessee to be near family upon his retirement.

Peggy reunited with Saint James A.M.E. in 1972; serving throughout the years in numerous capacities; church treasurer, choir member, Women’s Missionary Society, YPD, Stewardess Board, and Steward. She was a faithful member until her passing.

Miss Peggy or “Aunt Peggy” as she was known, never met a stranger. She enjoyed her flower garden; having won several blue ribbons for her coleus at the county fair. Much of her time was spent reading, watching TV, spending time with her family, and being a second mother to many. She had several close friends with whom she regularly spent hours on the telephone.  Peggy grew up in downtown Dickson on Mulberry Street. She and her husband owned a café on Mulberry in the 1970’s. She started cooking at age 8. As an adult her holiday gatherings open to everyone.  Peggy aspired to become a nurse which would have been a suitable career, befitting her patience and compassion for others. Through the years, she was a frequent visitor to NHC and the County nursing home. She also served as a precinct election official for 30 years, and volunteered at the Dickson County Help Center.  Her most recent role was Chairman of the Board and number one fan of WDKN.

Peggy lived and died by Christian principles and examples.

For us, she is gone too soon, but our Heavenly Father is all-knowing and wise. She lived by His time and by His word. Peggy left a legacy of love, beautiful smiles and memories that will be cherished forever. She was a beloved citizen of our community, that left it a much better place.

Peggy was preceded in death by her grandparents; Agustus and Varrie Lanier, parents; Ray and Eva Lanier, and husband Horace. She leaves to cherish her memory; daughter Valarie Reddon-Milan, Dickson, TN; son Phillip Reddon, Dickson, TN; son Christopher (Xiorki) Reddon, Dickson, TN; Lori M.
