Deacon Larry B. Evans transitioned into eternal rest on December 2, 2022 to spend all eternity with his Lord.  He was the youngest child of the late Deacon Orange Evans and Mother Pearl Evans.  He accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifetime member of Worley Furnace Missionary Baptist Church.  He served many years as chairman of the Deacon Board.  He was educated in the Dickson County School system and graduated from Hampton High in 1958.  On October 21, 1959 he united in marriage to Lucille Primm and three children were born to this union Judy, Malinda, and Dudley.

Deacon Evans was a man, that trusted in the Lord and loved his family and always provided and protected his family.

Deacon Evans was a very simple man.  He found joy in praising the Lord and spending time with his family.  He loved singing and at early age he began singing with the original Dixie Travelers.  He and some others would harmonize in the locker room.  They were known as the Sons of Harmony.  He inherited his love for singing from his mother, Pearl Evans.  He loved listening to gospel music.  His favorite pastime was watching Gunsmoke, The Andy Griffith Show, and Sanford and Son.  He would laugh and enjoy these shows as though it was his first time watching each episode.

As a family we always thought he would become a preacher.  His first sermon as a Deacon was titled “But God!”.  He loved wearing his “God is Good” hat.  He truly believed in letting go and letting God handle things for you.  His favorite song was “The Storm is Passing Over”.

Deacon Evans started working at an early age in several dry cleaners.  He would eventually work his way up into management.  He drove to Nashville to work for 36 years.  Regardless of the weather, rain, snow or sleet, he would go to work.  He received many awards and appreciation certificates during his working career.  He always stayed humble.  He held many positions during his working career.  He worked at Dickson General Hospital, Goodlark Hospital, Meharry Medical Center, Hickory Hollow Healthcare, Trevecca Healthcare, Southern Hills Hospital and retired from Baptist Hospital.  He also served on the Dickson County Commission Board.  While working these jobs, he owned The Sunshine Center Dry Cleaner and Laundromat.  He also operated and owned a janitorial service.  While operating his business, he would often help strangers.  He would buy groceries for the needy and offered free laundry services to people who just needed a hand up.

Deacon Evans was a very easy approachable person.  He was loved and admired by so many people.  He had a gentle way of uplifting you.  His sincerity was felt throughout your soul.  He would give you his shirt off his back, but wouldn’t accept anything in return.

Deacon Larry B. Evans was preceded in death by his parents, Deacon Orange Evans and Mother Pearl Evans; son, Larry Dudley Evans; sisters, Estella Overton, Georgia Springer, Beatrice Grimes, and Marion Evans; his brothers, including his twin brother, Harry D., Arthur, Aaron, Raymond, Henry Lee, and Robert Evans.  Also preceded in death by his lifelong friends Harry Holt and Alton Horner.
