Larry Thomas Brown was born on March 31, 1942, in Dickson, TN. He died on March 9, 2023, after a battle with heart and kidney failure. He was 80 years old.

Larry graduated from Dickson County High School in 1960. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Austin Peay State University and served in the Army National Guard.

He married JoAnne Litton on February 8, 1979. They had one daughter, Loren. He was overjoyed to become a grandfather in November 2022.

Larry had three careers before retiring in 2012. He worked for the Bank of Dickson for 20 years and Fussell’s Men’s Shop on Main Street for 19 years. He then found his calling as a history teacher. He began work as an adjunct professor during his time at Fussell’s and taught high school history for 13 years. He was devoted to his students and brought history to life for them.

Larry loved life. He was an avid golfer and photographer. He especially loved documenting his extensive travels with his family. He visited all 50 states in his lifetime as well as several countries, including Australia, a country for which he had a lifelong fascination. He was also a devoted fan of gospel music and spent much of the last several years traveling with his wife and friends to attend concerts. Most significantly, Larry loved his church, his family, and his friends. He brought joy and smiles to everyone he met, including the doctors and nurses in the last week of his life.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Dixon Brown and Essie Louise Brown.

He is survived by JoAnne, his wife of 44 years; their daughter, Loren Brown Warf (Nathan); his grandson, Henry Warf; sisters Peggy Brown Peeler (Sanders) and Melba Brown Lankford (Gilbert); and several nieces and nephews.
