Mrs. Sammie Marie Allen Corbitt, age 103, of Oak Ridge, TN formerly of Charlotte, TN died peacefully at her home in Oak Ridge, TN, April 15, 2023.

She was born in Charlotte, Tennessee on January 23, 1920, to Frank and Metta Irene Hooper Allen. One of six children and was preceded in death by all of her siblings: Doug Allen; Bo Allen; Donnie Allen; and T. L. (Tom) Allen; and Mildred Barcomb. She was a graduate of Charlotte High School.  Shortly after graduation she started her working career at a shirt factory sewing military uniforms. She married the love of her life in 1942, Clinton Corbitt. To this union they were blessed with five children, Charles, Darlene, Debbie, Gail and Larry. Gail and Larry (Butch) survive.  In the early 1950’s, having three children, the family moved to Michigan where Sammie was employed with Ford Motor Company as a sewing machine operator for some 30 years. Two more children were born later.  Her beloved Clinton died in 1963 leaving her with four children still at home.  She was a widow for 60 years, never remarrying.  At the time of her death, she remained in love with Clinton.

Over the years Sammie was a resident of Utica, Michigan, Port Charlotte, FL and Oak Ridge, TN. Sammie followed the love of her family living in several different places.

She loved and was loved by her family and friends and all that came in contact with her. Sammie had the pleasure of having four generations of family surviving and she loved every one of them. She was blessed to be the kind of person that just genuinely loved people. Sammie was a sweet-spirited, loving lady with a big, beautiful smile that just drew everyone in.  She reflected her generation as being a strong, responsible, and dependable lady. She was taught this and she in turn taught her children to love and respect their elders.

She loved her flowers, she loved sewing, stitching, crocheting, reading, working word puzzles, and loved doing anything with her hands and things that made her to think. As the years passed by her eyesight began to fail her and she turned to the television and listened to television shows even though she could not see. She never complained, she endured. Sammie did often wonder if God had forgotten all about her.  She made the best out of her long, full, God-given life.

Sammie is survived by her daughter; Serena Gail Forsgren, her son; Larry (Butch) Corbitt, her 7 grandchildren, her 11 great-grandchildren and her 16 great-great grandchildren.

Casket bearers will be Larry (Butch) Corbitt, Keith Forsgren, Christopher Blaskowski, Josh Blaskowski, Kenny Forsgren and Matthew Forsgren.
