Celeste Marie Gonzales Pevahouse passed away peacefully on January 25, 2025, surrounded by her treasured family as she entered into the arms of her beloved savior.

Born on September 21, 1953, in Washington, DC, to the late Celestino Harring Gonzales and Elizabeth “Marie” Buchanan Gonzales, Celeste was a proud native Washingtonian. After graduating from Potomac High School in 1971, she attended Samford University where she met the love of her life, William “Buddy” Pevahouse. Following their graduation, Celeste and Buddy were married on May 25, 1975, first settling in Birmingham, AL before relocating to Nashville, TN. They moved to Dickson in 1976, making it home for the remainder of her years.

Celeste was a jack of many trades but an educator at her core, beginning her professional life as an elementary school teacher before embarking on a career journey that included success in politics, media, healthcare, and travel. One of Celeste’s greatest joys was traveling the world with Buddy, as she held firmly to Saint Augustine’s belief that, “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.” Of the countless countries and cities she visited, there was no adventure more life-changing for her than her travels through Israel and the Holy Land as she walked where Jesus walked.

Her family was her heart, and nothing meant more to her than her role as wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved fiercely and those who were blessed to call her friend, neighbor, or colleague knew firsthand the delight of her feisty spirit and come-as-you-are smile. Those who truly knew her, knew Celeste did not desire to be the center of attention, but her lively spirit coupled with her genuine warmth made her a natural leader and passionate connector of others. Her greatest wish in life was to reflect her faith through her love and service to others and she often found ways to serve in secret.

Proceeded in death by her father and mother, Celeste is survived by her adoring husband of 50 years William (“Buddy”) Pevahouse and their three children: Chris Pevahouse, Matt (Shelley) Pevahouse, and Laura Pevahouse Wallenstein (Dan), her brother, David Gonzales (Tammy). She is also survived by grandchildren Evan, Kate, and Luke Pevahouse, and William, Andrew, and Charlie Wallenstein, to whom she was their precious Grandy.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests consideration of a contribution to The Dollar Club Ministry at Crosspoint Church, the Dickson Help Center, or a charity meaningful to you.
